ART 10
Credits: 5 Prerequisite: None
Art 10 is an introduction to the visual Arts and is a prerequisite for other Art courses. Students learn about the Elements and Principles of Art through various two-dimensional and three-dimensional projects. Emphasis is on the development of basic skills and techniques, process and craftsmanship, and effective studio management. Through a variety of project planning and research, students are introduced to artwork and artists, both past and present. The media and techniques explored vary from ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, drawing, painting, and collage.
ART 20
Credits: 5 Prerequisite: Art 10
Art 20 continues the creative process, expanding on knowledge and skills gained in Art 10. Students take a conceptual approach to art making, with focus on idea development and articulation. The influence of Artists, past and present, and the exploration of personal themes are interwoven throughout each creative project. Students are expected to continue to develop their skills and techniques in the making of Art with attention to quality of work, reflection and refinement. The media and techniques explored vary from ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, drawing, painting and printmaking.
ART 30
Credits: 5 Prerequisite: Art 20
In Art 30, students are encouraged to develop a more independent approach to art making through the exploration of their own personal styles and themes. Students are expected to draw upon inspiration from the work of artists, past and present, to influence and enhance their artwork. Emphasis is on refinement of personal art-making skills and techniques with a focus on drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, and ceramics. Art 30 is intended for serious Art students who will endeavor to push the boundaries of personal creativity in all their Artwork.
ADVANCED PLACEMENT ART
Credits: 5 Prerequisite: Art 30
This is a course taken in conjunction with Art 30. AP Art has been developed for students who have demonstrated a strong interest and commitment to excel in the visual arts. These students will complete an AP Art portfolio with an emphasis on process, inquiry and completed artworks. All students will submit a portfolio at the end of the course that has followed the AP Art Submission requirements. This course will emphasize ongoing experimentation and exploration in the development of a personal artist style. Mastery of concepts, composition, execution, varied art mediums, mixed media, and themes, concepts, subject matter, and content are an expected outcome.
