From mastering the sewing machine and serger, and getting comfortable with hand sewing, you'll build essential skills, learn to repair your own clothes, make a pouch or tote bag, and sew a pair of pajamas for yourself. Do you like to thrift? So do we! Explore your inventive side through upcycling thrifted finds and redesigning pieces into something one-of-a-kind. In Fashion 10, you’ll also dive into textile arts—from dyeing fabrics to experimenting with embroidery, macramé, crochet, or surface design, the creative possibilities are endless. This course lays the groundwork for unlocking your full potential, preparing you to take your skills to the next level in Intermediate and Advanced Fashion Studies.

Work with specialty fabrics and expand your creative horizons by designing everything from tops, bottoms, costumes and cosplay to home décor and accessories. Learn how to alter patterns, or make clothes for friends, create trendy active wear, eco-dye fabric, understand how stores merchandise clothing, or explore the exciting world of tufting your own rugs! Whether you’re into theatrical costumes, quirky designs, or love textile arts, you’ll leave this course with several finished projects and tons of inspiration.

Graphic Design and Photography

GRAPHIC DESIGN AND PHOTOGRAPHY INTRO

This course continues to bring together the visual and creative disciplines of Photography and Graphic Design in a digital practice. In the photography portion of the course you will learn to see the world as a photographer. You will learn how to use Digital SLR cameras and digital editing software to capture exciting images of people and places both in our studio and outside. The graphic design portion of the course will build on the skills of photography to learn the Adobe creative suite to create posters, publications and other print and digital designs. Throughout the course, you will complete a series of projects that will help you practice the skills you are learning and develop your technical and creative skills.

GRAPHIC DESIGN AND PHOTOGRAPHY INTERMEDIATE

Credits: 5                          Prerequisite: Graphic Design and Photography Intro

This intermediate course expands your technical and creative foundations in both photography and graphic design. In the photography portion, you will advance your understanding of photographic composition, explore how different lenses influence visual storytelling, and learn to communicate ideas more intentionally through images. You will continue building your digital editing skills as you work with both vector and raster graphics to create more refined visual designs. In the graphic design portion, you will develop your abilities in electronic layout and publishing, applying design principles to produce cohesive and professional print and digital pieces. Throughout the course, you will complete a series of projects that challenge you to experiment, problem-solve, and strengthen your visual communication skills.

GRAPHIC DESIGN AND PHOTOGRAPHY ADVANCED

This advanced course brings your photographic and design skills to a senior level by engaging you in specialized, real-world creative practices. In the photography portion, you will work extensively with outdoor photography, controlled lighting, black-and-white digital techniques, and colour theory to create compelling and intentional images. You will also study photojournalism, learning how to document authentic stories through powerful visual narratives. In the graphic design portion, you will deepen your skills of electronic layout and publishing, producing more extensive design projects with strong technical execution. Throughout the course, you will complete advanced projects that demonstrate mastery, independence, and your personal artistic voice.
