Engaging in class activities, completing assignments, and handling homework serve as reinforcement for concepts introduced during lessons, providing crucial learning opportunities for students at Crescent Heights High School. These activities are integral to the learning process and play a vital role in achieving success. A student's enrollment in a course signifies a commitment to active participation, and adherence to deadlines is expected for timely completion of work.

Homeroom

Homeroom time, where students have the opportunity to connect with a dedicated teacher over the course of three years, serves a crucial purpose in the educational experience. This consistent and supportive relationship between students and their homeroom teacher fosters a sense of trust and familiarity that extends beyond the traditional classroom setting. It allows students to build a bond with someone who can provide guidance, mentorship, and a safe space for open dialogue. Over these three years, the homeroom teacher becomes not just an educator but also a source of emotional support and a resource for addressing academic, personal, and social challenges. This continuity ensures that students have a trusted adult figure who knows them well and can offer tailored guidance, which is particularly valuable during the challenging years of adolescence.

It is expected for students to attend all homeroom periods and to remain in class for the duration of the block.

Spares

When students have a spare, it comes with certain expectations to ensure a safe and productive school environment. During this time, they are encouraged to utilize designated spaces like the student centre or the Learning Commons for quiet study or relaxation. However, it's important to note that students should not roam the building aimlessly, as this can disrupt ongoing classes. Additionally, congregating in the parking lot or lingering in the bathrooms is not permitted, as it may raise security concerns or cause unnecessary disruptions. The expectations of students during their spare aim to strike a balance between granting them some freedom and responsibility while maintaining order and respect for the learning environment. By adhering to these guidelines, students can make the most of their spare time while respecting the needs of their fellow students and the school community as a whole.

  • Grade 10s do not have spares
  • Grade 11s may have a spare or half-spare if it is a part of their Learning Plan and they are up to date with courses and credits.
  • Grade 12s may have a spare each semester if their courses and credits are up to date.

Decisions about spares are made in consultation with the student, their parents, Student Services and the appropriate administrator.
