Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,
This letter is to inform you that North Trail High School is projected to be over capacity for the 2024-25 school year. The school will not be able to accommodate all new students who live within the designated school boundary. As a result, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) will introduce a cap on enrolment at North Trail High School and designate an overflow school for the 2024-25 school year.
Effective immediately, new registrations for North Trail High School, including new registrations in SchoolEngage, that cannot be accommodated at North Trail High School for the 2024-25 school year will be overflowed to:
- Crescent Heights High School - located at 1019 1st Street NW Calgary, AB, T2M 2S2

Students overflowed to Crescent Heights High School will be placed on a call-back list. If space becomes available, they will be given the opportunity to transfer back to North Trail High School.
No Changes for Current Students at North Trail High School
Students currently attending North Trail High School will remain at the school for the 2024-25 school year and beyond, provided they do not move or reside outside the school boundary.
No Changes for Students Accepted to Attend North Trail High School
Registrations from students assigned to North Trail High School, including current Grade 9 CBE students, that have been processed and confirmed by the school for the 2024-25 school year will attend the school until they graduate or move or if they currently reside outside of the school boundary.
Why is this change happening?
Over the current school year, continuous registrations for North Trail High School have been at a rate higher than anticipated for communities designated to the school. For this reason, changes must be put in place to ensure the learning environment is not adversely impacted and to manage enrolment at North Trail High School.
Establishing an overflow will ensure all students have a place to attend school for the 2024-25 school year and will help balance enrolment between North Trail High School and Crescent Heights High School.
If there are any additional changes for the 2025-26 school year and beyond, affected communities will be notified.
What is a call-back list?
If space at North Trail High School becomes available during the school year, it will be offered to students on the call-back list who are attending their designated overflow school, Crescent Heights High School.
Students remain on the call-back list while they attend the designated overflow school. Students will be removed from the call-back list if they move out of the North Trail High School boundary, transfer from their designated overflow school, or decline a call-back to North Trail High School. Any new registrations received for the 2024-25 school year will be added to the call-back list based on priority designation and the date and time of their registration.
How do I register for the 2024-25 school year?
Any new registrations from students living in the North Trail High School designated school boundary must still register for North Trail High School through SchoolEngage. Once these registrations have been received, the school will determine if space and resources are available at North Trail High School.
If the student cannot be accommodated, student information is transferred to their new overflow designation, Crescent Heights High School. The student will be added to the call-back list based on priority. For more information on how to register, please visit our website.
Is there transportation for students attending the designated overflow schools?
High school students are assigned to Calgary Transit as their mode of transportation. Routes can be accessed through the “Plan a Trip” tool. School express routes may not be provided, and students may be required to take regular routes. While CBE works collaboratively with Calgary Transit, Calgary Transit makes year-to-year decisions on service levels based on available space and resources.
What if I have questions?
If you still have questions or require additional information, please contact the Area 3 office at Area3@cbe.ab.ca.
