Notice for FINAL DAY OF SCHOOL

For Friday June 14, 2024 to support our last day of regularly scheduled classes and events, the student parking lot will be closed. Students will need to arrange transportation alternatives to Crescent Heights High School for that day. Community parking options are also extremely limited. The Crescent Heights Community Association and Curling Club parking lots will be unavailable to students for the duration of the day. Any students parked in either lot will be ticketed and/or towed. The external school doors will be locked until 8:00 am, so students should plan accordingly. We look forward to welcoming our students for their last day of classes for the 2023-2024 school year.

Have a great summer, CHHS! We wish all the best to our graduating class of 2024 and can’t wait to hear great things about your next steps. Grade 10/11s, we’ll see you in the fall for another great year! Come see us when classes settle to book in to talk about how things are going and how we can support you next year. See our guidance secretary to book an appointment after September 12 when classes are settled and our new students are registered. We’ll send this information and more out in the fall.

Save the Date: CHHS Post-Secondary Visits

Heading into Grade 12? We encourage you to spend the summer to consider who you might want to connect with in the fall. We are here to support you with how and when to apply. Generally, most applications open in October and you have until early in 2025 in most cases to apply so there is lots of time to talk to schools and explore what they offer.  We’ll do a lunch workshop with information and advice on how to navigate this all in late September before Calgary applications open. Date to be determined and sent out in the fall.

Next Year Timetables

Thanks so much for registering for your classes and reviewing your course selections by the end of April for us to build your timetables. Guidance Counsellors are now working hard over the next few weeks to balance all student timetables for the 2024-2025 school year. Student schedules are subject to change through the summer as we balance class sizes. While student timetables will retain the same courses, the specific order of courses and corresponding teachers may change. Timetables will be released in mid-August and will be available in MyCBE / PowerSchool at this time.

Course Change Requests

Classes at Crescent Heights next year are full; therefore it is difficult for counsellors to adjust timetables. Students are asked to ensure that guidelines below are adhered to before submitting a request.

Students will have the opportunity to request a change to their timetable in late August-early September. To request a schedule change, students must complete a Google Form after signing into their CBE Google account. This form can only be submitted one time. The course change form will not be active until mid-August. We will send out an email when timetables are released with the online course change form link. Once you have submitted your request you will not be able to change, or submit it again.  Please do not email your counsellor as they will contact you as needed.

Change requests will be reviewed in the following priority order:

  • You completed a summer course.
  • You would like to adjust your core courses if your plans after high school have changed and you have the prerequisite for the course(s) you are requesting.
  • You would like to request a new course or option – not listed above.
  • You are dropping a course and not requesting a new course to be added (Grade 11/12 students only. Grade 11s may have one half or full spare and Grade 12s may have one each semester.)

It is important to note that very few changes will be granted as timetables have been balanced. We do have a waitlist that we work through regularly and will add students if space(s) open up but this may not be possible. Counsellors can help map out alternative high school planning if you need support after classes settle to help students figure out a new plan.  All change requests must be submitted through the fillable Course Change Request Form.

Important Guidelines

1. All schedules are subject to change as we balance class sizes.

2. Changes will not be made based on switching to a specific teacher (or switching out of a specific teacher's class).

3. Teaching assignments often change; the teacher listed on a student’s timetable may not be the teacher when the class begins.

4. Courses cannot be moved to different periods due to extra-curricular student commitments and/or spare preferences. Students are expected to be available to attend all periods during the school day.

5. Counsellors will only contact a student if there are questions regarding their schedule. Students are asked to please be patient and check PowerSchool often for changes to their schedule once they have submitted a request form.

6.  If a counsellor needs to see a student in person to discuss timetable concerns, a lunchtime placeholder called "See Counsellor" will be added to their schedule. Only students with a ‘See Counsellor’ note will be seen during the first few days of school. Counsellors will call these students out of class to review and fix any timetable conflicts.

Interested in an online class with CBe-Learn during the next year?

Online course requests for semester one will be sent in the same email as the course change request form in mid-August. Semester two registration will not happen until late October/November. We encourage students to look at their timetables and course loads to consider what semester may be best if they wish to take an online course.
